India’s Ministry of Electronics and IT Industry has issued a “Circular No. 1 – 2016” dated 8^th September 2016, announcing that the implementation date for adding server/storage power devices to the BIS (Bureau of Industry Standards) mandatory registration scheme will be 31^st December 2016. In other words, the BIS registration requirement will be in force from 1^st January 2017.

The Ministry of Electronics and IT Industry has previously stated that “when power supplies are detachable modules and imported separately to be used with e.g. servers, these are functionally identical to adaptors. So, if imported as a stand-alone device, it is subject to the mandatory registration.”

All clients that are intending to use IOR Global as Importer of records to ship power supplies to India as ‘stand-alone’ devices should take note of the commencement date for the new requirement.
